Q: What means UMTS? |
A: UMTS stands for "universal mobile telecommunications system" and embodies the portable radio system of the 3rd generation.

A: UMTS will replace the presently used GSM and GPRS systems.

A: If too much users want to login onto a UMTS cell, the cell becomes smaller to protect the QoS for the users they are logged in. (Sharing of Bandwidth)

Q: Descripe roughly the Technology behind UMTS |
A: UMTS consists technically seen of two core components: the radio net and the carrier net.
The radio net consists of the mobile devices of the users (e.g. Handy, PDA) and the basis station (radio antenna), between whom by radio transmission one communicates.
The carrier net connects the basis stations among themselves and creates connections to other networks, like the ISDN net and the InterNet.
