A: UMTS consists technically seen of two core components: the radio net and the carrier net.

The radio net consists of the mobile devices of the users (e.g. Handy, PDA) and the basis station (radio antenna), between whom by radio transmission one communicates.

The carrier net connects the basis stations among themselves and creates connections to other networks, like the ISDN net and the InterNet.
